Kindergarten and Early Learning Centre Cleaning
Kindergarten cleaning in Melbourne for sessional kinders, Pre-Prep programs and integrated early learning centres, whether your service is run by a council, a parent committee or an Early Years Management organisation. We clean around your session timetable and the school term calendar, and leave a signed log after every visit. If you also run long day care or OSHC, see our other services for early learning providers.
Kinders have a different rhythm from childcare centres. Rooms change groups during the week, buildings are often shared with a school or a community hall, and the people signing the cleaning contract can change every year. This page is about working well inside all of that.

What does kindergarten cleaning in Melbourne cover?
Kindergarten cleaning in Melbourne covers the playroom, the children's bathroom, the snack or kitchen area, outdoor surfaces and the entry, cleaned after each session day to suit the group that comes in next. Most kinders need three to five visits a week during term and none in the holidays.
A sample term-time week for a two-group sessional kinder with no Friday session. Your own timetable sets the visits.
A sessional kinder room is set up with care by the teacher, and a good cleaner respects that. Easels, the home corner, the block area and the sensory table are cleaned where they stand and put back exactly as they were, and anything laid out for tomorrow's program is left alone. The children's bathroom and the snack area get the full clean-then-disinfect treatment at each visit.
Outdoor play is a bigger part of kinder than of most childcare settings, and the sandpit, mud kitchen and verandah take a real beating. Outdoor tables and the mud kitchen bench are washed, the sandpit is raked and checked for anything sharp or unpleasant, and the cover goes back on before we leave.
Many Melbourne kinders sit in older council buildings with lino floors, timber verandahs and outdoor play spaces that see sand, mud and bark tracked in daily. Floors are the hardest-working surface in those rooms, so they are swept, mopped and, where there is carpet for group time, vacuumed at every visit.
Kindergarten centre cleaning also has a quieter week built in. Many kinders do not run on Friday, so it becomes the day for rotation work such as shelving, window sills, lockers and the outdoor storage shed, without anything getting in the way of a session.
Across the school holidays the building usually sits empty, and that is the time for the bigger jobs. Our term break deep cleaning covers carpets, walls, high dusting and furniture, so the room starts each term in better shape than it finished the last.
Shared buildings add one more layer. Where a kinder shares toilets, a hall or a kitchen with a school or community group, the areas that are ours are written down, and the log only covers those, so there is never an argument about who left the hall untidy.
How is Pre-Prep changing kinder cleaning?
Four-Year-Old Kindergarten in Victoria is becoming Pre-Prep, with weekly hours rising in stages from 15 toward 30. Longer days mean more meals, more rest time and more bathroom use in the same room, so kinders moving to Pre-Prep usually need a bigger nightly scope.
- More eating
A longer day brings lunch as well as snacks, so eating tables, the floor beneath them and the kitchen area carry more of the workload.
- Rest time
Some programs add a rest period, which brings mats or stretchers, covers and a storage area into the clean.
- Heavier bathroom use
Twice the hours means roughly twice the toilet and hand basin use, and that is where cleaning time grows first.
The roll-out is happening area by area, and the Victorian Government's Pre-Prep page sets out which local government areas move when. If your kinder is changing hours next year, mention it in your quote request so the current timetable and the new one can be priced side by side, and the committee can budget for both.
Changing hours also shift when the cleaning can happen. A room that used to close at 12.30 on some days might now run until 3 pm, which moves our visit later and may push rotation work onto a different day. We would rather plan that with you before term starts than discover it on the first afternoon.
How is early learning centre cleaning different?
An early learning centre usually combines long day care rooms with a funded kinder program under one roof. We clean the long day care rooms to the nightly centre scope and treat the kinder room as a program of its own, so the teacher's set-up and materials are respected.
Early learning centre cleaning is where the two worlds meet. The babies and toddler rooms need everything a long day care centre needs, from change mats to cots, while the kinder room runs to a teaching plan with resources a teacher has spent the afternoon arranging.
The log reflects that split. Each room gets its own lines, so the centre director can see the nursery scope and the kinder teacher can see how their room was left, without either reading through the other's details.
Shared spaces, like the outdoor area, the art studio or a piazza used by every room, are cleaned as part of the centre scope and noted once, not twice. Integrated centres also tend to have laundries, storage rooms and larger staff areas, which are priced into the same centre scope rather than added later.

- Move a teacher's provocation or display
- Throw out loose parts or natural materials
- Pack away work left out to dry
- Reorganise the book corner
- Rearrange tables set for the morning
If something in the kinder room needed moving to clean it properly, it goes back in the same spot and the log says so. Anything we were unsure about is left and noted, so the teacher decides rather than us.
How do we work with council and committee-run kinders?
We work with whoever holds the cleaning contract, whether that is a volunteer parent committee, an Early Years Management organisation or the council itself, and we keep the scope, prices and records in a form that survives a change of committee each year.
| Who manages the kinder | Who usually engages the cleaner | What we provide |
|---|---|---|
| Parent committee | The committee, often through the treasurer or president | A one-page scope and price the next committee can pick up without starting again |
| Early Years Management organisation | The organisation, sometimes for a group of kinders at once | One account with a separate scope and log for each site |
| Council | Council's early years or facilities team | Certificates, WWCC register and any supplier forms council requires |
| School or long day care provider | The provider's operations team | A scope that slots into their wider cleaning arrangements |
Committee-run kinders have a particular problem: the parents who hired the cleaner last year may all have moved on. We keep a written handover of the scope, key holders and alarm codes, and send it to the incoming committee in term one, so the new president does not inherit a cleaner with no paperwork. Treasurers get a single invoice each month with the visits listed, which makes the annual audit simpler too.
Many kinders are now grouped under Early Years Management organisations, which run several services under one umbrella. For those, we quote each building on its own merits but bill through one account, and the logs for every site can be sent to a single central contact.
Where the building belongs to council, repairs and maintenance normally stay with council, so anything we find broken is written on the log and reported to whoever you nominate. The cleaning evidence also supports your service's quality work; our NQS and ACECQA compliance page explains how.
How does a kinder get a cleaning quote from us?
Send the kinder's session days, the number of rooms and who manages the service. A fixed written price per visit comes back within 24 hours, with the term holiday deep clean priced separately so the committee can approve each part on its own.
Committees usually need two or three quotes to compare, so ours is laid out room by room with the method for each, which makes it easy to line up against other cleaners. To see how we work with every kind of early learning service, read about our childcare cleaning in Melbourne.

What do kinder committees and teachers ask?
Short answers to the three questions we hear most from kinder presidents, treasurers and teachers. New committee members picking up an existing arrangement can also ask us for the handover document at any time.
